It could have been a lot worse: That’s what New York City’s arts and cultural institutions are saying about a budget that ended up being 1.6 million dollars less than what the city gave out last year. “The original cuts that were proposed were a disaster,” Karen Brooks Hopkins, president of the Brooklyn Academy of Music and chairperson of the city’s Cultural Institutions Group, told Newsday‘s Deepti Hajela. “All things being equal, we came out of this budget cycle OK.”
