A new gallery has moved in to the space recently vacated by the Claremont Museum of Art, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The OBJCT Gallery has set up shop at the Packing House in Claremont and will open an exhibition titled “Claremont Modernism” from Friday to April 25.

The Claremont Museum of Art closed to the public December 27 and moved out of its space in the former citrus-packing plant December 31. The museum had been facing financial problems because of a lack of donations and was operating mostly on a staff of volunteers during its final weeks.

David Shearer, the director of OBJCT, said that the gallery is operating out of the space that used to be the museum’s gift shop. The upcoming exhibition will take place in the museum’s former exhibition space. He said the gallery plans to stay permanently in the former shop space but said plans are uncertain about the exhibition space.

OBJCT has been operating a gallery in the Pomona Arts Colony for about a year.

In other news, after three years in Great Jones Alley, New York, Marc Jancou Contemporary has announced that it is relocating to Chelsea, at 524 West Twenty-fourth Street. The gallery’s first exhibition in Chelsea will open on March 5 with a solo show of new work by Nick Lowe. The New York gallery represents artists including Larry Johnson and Marnie Weber.
