Over $1 Billion Put into Canada’s Arts and Culture Budget

Claire Voon of Hyperallergic writes that the Canadian government will invest over $1 billion dollars throughout the next five years to promote creativity in Canada and beyond. This is the first budget put forth by Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

The Canada Council for the Arts stated that the funding is “an unprecedented commitment to Canadian arts and culture. This once-in-a-generation reinvestment permeates beyond the walls of the Canada Council. It is a resounding acknowledgement that arts and culture function today as a robust social infrastructure in Canada.” By 2021 the council will receive almost thirty percent of the funds.
