Palm Springs Art Museum Appointed Louis Grachos Executive Director

The Palm Springs Art Museum in California has named Louis Grachos as its new chief executive officer and executive director. Grachos comes to the institution from Austin, Texas, where he has been the head of the Contemporary Austin since 2013. He will take up the post in June. Mark Prior, who has been a board trustee since 2017, has served as interim director while the search for new leadership was underway.

During his tenure at the Contemporary Austin, Grachos spearheaded the launch of a contemporary outdoor sculpture program; facilitated the creation of the Suzanne Deal Booth / FLAG Art Foundation Prize; and oversaw the renovation and expansion of the museum’s downtown exhibition space, the Jones Center on Congress Avenue. Prior to joining the institution, Grachos served as the executive director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, and as the director of SITE Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

“I am exhilarated and honored to accept this new role at the Palm Springs Art Museum,” said Grachos. “It will be a privilege to work with such distinguished museum buildings and collections, develop strong exhibitions programs, and deepen the museum’s commitment to arts education and outreach.”
