PARK AVENUE ARMORY ANNOUNCES FIRST CURATOR OF ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The Park Avenue Armory has appointed Meiyin Wang as the first curator of its Artist-in-Residence program in support of the Armory’s mission to foster new, collaborative, and experimental works by artists across genres. Wang is currently the codirector of the Public Theater’s Under The Radar Festival, a position which she will continue in addition to her new job at the Armory.

Wang has served on numerous adjudication panels, including the National Endowment for the Arts, New England Foundation for the Arts National Theater Project, New York Foundation for the Arts, Association of Performing Arts Presenters, The MAP Fund, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Boska Komedia Festival (Krakow).

She is a new appointee to the board of Theater Communications Group, and received TCG’s Young Leader of Color award in 2008. Born in Singapore, Wang served as the resident playwright and director with Singapore Repertory Theatre before moving to New York.

The Armory also concurrently announced the 2015 line-up of artists in residence and the related “Under Construction” series, which showcases works in process by resident artists. That series starts on April 8 with a performance by Grammy-award-winning drummer, producer, and composer Ulysses Owens Jr. Additional artists in residence this season include the theater company 600 Highwaymen; animated filmmaker and artist Brent Green; theater artists Taylor Mac and Machine Dazzle; the writer, director, and production designer Andrew Ondrejcak; vocalist and composer Imani Uzuri; and comedian and musician Reggie Watts.
