Performa has appointed art collector and curator Toby Devan Lewis to board chair, Artnews reports.
“She is a visionary—there is no other way to describe her—and a philanthropist in that she understands the impact of a powerful idea,” founder of the performance art biennial RoseLee Goldberg said. “She was the first person that I spoke to when I came up with the idea for Performa ten years ago.”
Lewis will take over for art dealer and owner of Salon 94 Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, who will step down but remain on the board. Rohatyn has occupied the position since 2009.
Other changes to the board include naming artist Rashid Johnson to vice chair and the addition of a thirteenth member to the board, Iranian artist Shirin Neshat.
Performa is also introducing an advisory council. A list of members of the board and the council can be found here.
