Kelly M. O’Brien, interim development director at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, has been named executive director of development, museum officials reported yesterday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. O’Brien, who had been serving as interim director since October, has worked in various development positions at the museum for nine years.

Timothy Rub, museum director and chief executive, said that O’Brien’s familiarity with the institution would prove a considerable asset in a difficult funding environment.

“We felt it was critical to appoint someone who understands this institution, can build upon our past fundraising successes, and provide the leadership required to strengthen all aspects of our work in this area, with individuals, foundations, and corporations,” Rub said in a written statement announcing the appointment.

While the position of executive development director is not new, a museum spokeswoman said, it has not been utilized in recent years.

Betty Marmon, who served as development director and later as director of philanthropic initiatives, left the museum last year. She is now vice president of development and external affairs at the Inglis Foundation.
