Philadelphia Museum of Art’s South Asian Galleries to Close Until 2016

The South Asian galleries at the Philadelphia Museum of Art will shut their doors for over a year beginning this weekend, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Stephan Salisbury.

Yesterday, museum reps said that the closure is supposed to allow the institution to rethink how the South Asian collection’s presented. Lighting and floors will be refurbished, and the spaces’ layouts will be reconfigured. The Pillared Temple Hall exhibit, for instance, will be revised to draw more attention to its religious roots.

The galleries are slated to reopen in the fall of 2016.
