PINACOTHèQUE DE PARIS CLOSES INDEFINITELY AFTER VISITOR NUMBERS PLUMMET

The Pinacothèque de Paris, a private museum founded by the curator and art historian Marc Restellini, has shut its doors as of yesterday, according to the New York Times’ Christopher D. Shea. According to a statement released by the museum, the plummeting economy following the terrorist attacks in Paris has led to a dramatic decrease in visitors.

But the museum had already faced financial woes, with Art Heritage France, the company managing the museum, encountering difficulties meeting debt payments since last fall. Restellini noted that the museum was considering other sites in lower-rent areas. In the meanwhile, the museum’s show on Karl Lagerfeld will close and its collection will head “to the museum’s sister site in Singapore, and to the future Paris location,” notes Shea.
