Pratt Institute’s President to Step Down

Pratt Institute president Thomas F. Schutte will be stepping down at the end of the 2016–2017 academic year, after twenty-three years leading the school. He will assume the title of president emeritus after that. Before joining Pratt in 1993, he spent a decade as president of RISD.

At Pratt, Schutte oversaw the construction of five academic buildings, additional acquisitions of property, and the purchase and renovation of Pratt’s campus on Fourteenth Street in Manhattan.

“Tom Schutte is one of Pratt’s most transformative leaders,” said Mike Pratt, vice chairman of the Institute’s Board of Trustees and a descendant of founder Charles Pratt. “The entire Pratt community—board members, faculty, staff, students, and alumni—are very much in Tom’s debt for the leadership he has provided over the past twenty-three years.”
