Protesters Denounce Met Museum’s New Koch Plaza, Activists Detained

Three activists were detained on Tuesday by NYPD officers outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, after protests disrupted a museum gala honoring David H. Koch and his $65 million donation towards the renovation of the Met's front plaza, which bears his name. Members of Occupy Museums—an offshoot of Occupy Wall Street that has previously staged protests at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and Lincoln Center—are protesting Koch's funding due to his commercial investments and his support of groups that deny and minimize climate change. The protestors who were detained were projecting slogans such as “The Met: Brought to you by the Tea Party” and “Koch = Climate Chaos” onto the museum's façade, according to Ben Davis in Artnet.
