Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina to Open New Balkan Women’s Museum in Montenegro

Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina has revealed that she plans to open a New Balkan Women’s Museum in Montenegro, according to Clarisse Loughrey in The Independent. The institution, as she sees it, will be “for women, by women, about women,” will work with only female curators and administrators, and exhibit female artists.

Pussy Riot, the feminist punk group, made headlines three years ago with a performance in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior that denounced Vladimir Putin. Alyokhina and others in the group were arrested for “hooliganism” at the time, and eventually sentenced to prison terms.
