QueerArtMentorship (QAM) program. Established in 2011, QAM aims to propel the careers of emerging artists by pairing them with more established artists, whom they will meet with periodically over the course of a year. Applications for the program will be accepted beginning on May 12.

To apply, prospective fellows will need to propose a project that they would like to work on. The mentors will work with Queer|Art staffers to select a fellow who will most benefit from their expertise. The program will culminate in a presentation of all the fellows’ work. This year’s cycle will kick off in October 2019 and end in October 2020.

The mentors include Thomas Lax, curator of media and performance art at the Museum of Modern Art in New York; gender theorist, author, and activist Kate Bornstein; and documentary filmmaker Hao Wu, the director of People’s Republic of Desire and All in My Family, which launches globally on Netflix next month.

Visual artist Yve Laris Cohen and producer Rodrigo Bellott will also serve as mentors. Both Laris Cohen and Bellott are alumni of the program; they were mentored by cabaret performance artist Justin Vivian Bond and filmmaker Silas Howard, respectively.
