QUENTIN BAJAC APPOINTED CHIEF CURATOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY AT MOMA

Quentin Bajac has been named chief curator of photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, effective January 2013, reports Carol Vogel of the New York Times. Bajac replaces Peter Galassi, who retired in 2011 after some thirty years at the museum. Bajac joined the Pompidou in 2003 as a curator of photography and in 2007 was promoted to run the department. He began his career at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, where he was a photography curator from 1995 through 2003.

Said director of MoMA Glenn D. Lowry: “Quentin’s superb accomplishments in Paris over the past seventeen years have brought significant attention to the importance of photography in art history and as a critical component of contemporary practice.”
