Recipients of $100,000 Katthy Cavaliere Fellowship Announced
The estate of the late artist Katthy Cavaliere has announced Frances Barrett, Giselle Stanborough, and Sally Rees as the winners of its $100,000 grants, which are awarded to female-identifying Australian artists working in performance and installation. The estate partnered with the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA), Carriageworks, and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) to establish the fellowship in support of women artists; the winners will realize an ambitious new project that will be exhibited at the three institutions in 2020.
The selection panel comprised Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Carriageworks; David Walsh, MONA; Nicole Durling, MONA; Max Delany, ACCA; and Annika Kristensen, ACCA.
“From a most impressive application pool of almost 300 applications, and after much deliberation and rewarding discussion, we are delighted to announce Frances Barrett, Giselle Stanborough and Sally Rees as the Katthy Cavaliere fellows,” the panel said in a statement. “Each are exceptional artists working at the forefront of experimental performance and installation practices, and each presented proposals that are especially fitting of Katthy’s legacy.”
