The New York State of Regents have approved emergency regulations regarding museum sales. The regulations, which were established in 2008 and expired this past September, prohibit museums from selling artworks to manage operating costs. “It is New York reasserting its leadership on cultural issues,” said assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky, according to WNYC. Brodsky fought to pass the bill. “It explicitly says that museums cannot use the sale of art objects for operating expenses,” he noted.
