Regine Basha has been appointed executive director of Artpace, a contemporary arts organization based in San Antonio.
“Artpace’s mission to inspire through the creation and advancement of contemporary art and belief that art is an important social force is a model for major art institutions throughout the world,” says Basha. “I look forward to working with such a dynamic organization as it evolves and continues to challenge the role of contemporary art while fostering creative careers and giving access to the public.”
Over the past two decades, Basha has conceived and produced curatorial projects, working as an adjunct curator at the Arthouse at the Jones Center in Austin, where she also initiated their residency program, and serving as an independent curator in cities including Istanbul, Cairo, Berlin, and Santiago. From 1998 to 2001, she held the post of cultural affairs officer for the Canadian Consulate. She will assume her new role March 1.
