Remai Modern Appoints Lynn McMaster Interim CEO

Museum administrator Lynn McMaster has been named CEO of the Remai Modern in Saskatoon, Canada, effective immediately. She will work closely with the institution’s board and staff as they search for a new director.

McMaster was most recently president and CEO at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, which she helped undergo a financial restructuring. She also held leadership roles at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and its affiliate, the Canadian Children’s Museum.

“Lynn is uniquely qualified to lead Remai Modern through this transition phase,” Beau Atkins, the museum’s interim board chair, said in a statement. “She has experience navigating organizations through big changes and has a wealth of fiscal, strategic, team building and business development knowledge specific to the museum sector. She has a reputation for innovative thinking and has long championed the importance of arts education and cultural institutions.”

The institution’s founding director and CEO, Gregory Burke, announced that he would step down in December 2018. Burke departed to return to New Zealand to take up the helm of Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.
