Evan Garza has been named the new director of Rice Public Art at Rice University in Houston, Texas. He will be leaving his current post as assistant curator of modern and contemporary art at the Blanton Museum of Art next month to begin at Rice in December. His hiring is in conjunction with the opening of Rice’s Moody Center for the Arts, a 50,000-square-foot facility dedicated to cross-disciplinary collaboration between the arts, sciences, and humanities. He will oversee the existing public art collection in addition to commissioning new works and programs and directing the facility and programs at the James Turrell skyspace at Rice, Twilight Epiphany, which opened in 2012.
