Rosa Maria Malet, the director of Barcelona’s Fundació Joan Miró, has been awarded the insignia of Knight of the National Order of Merit of the French Republic, reports ArtDaily. Malet was honored with the distinction in recognition of her role in strengthening the ties between Spain and France in the realms of art and culture.

Malet has held her directorial role at the Fundació Joan Miró for more than thirty-five years. She originally came to the museum as an assistant curator in 1975. She served as curator between 1976 and 1980, organizing, registering, and preserving works donated by Miró to the museum’s collection. She has a degree in philosophy and the arts, with a specialty in art history, from the University of Barcelona. She is also a member of the Association for the Defense of the Work of Miró, an entity created in 1985 to protect Miró’s art and legacy.
