Rubin Museum of Art Hires New Director

The Rubin Museum of Art has hired Jorrit A.M. Britschgi, who currently serves as head of exhibitions at the Museum Rietberg in Zurich, as their new director of exhibitions, collections, and research. The executive director of the Rubin, Patrick Sears, said of the hire “Jorrit’s leadership in the field and his creative approach to exhibitions will guide us as we move further into our second decade as an institution.”

At the Museum Rietberg, Britschgi was the manager of exhibitions and a curator for Indian painting. Exhibitions he organized there included “Akbar’s Golden Legacy,” from 2015-2016, “Master of Indian Painting,” in 2011, and “Rama and Sita – The Ramayana in Indian Painting,” in 2008. He is also the managing publisher of Artibus Asiae, a leading scholarly journal in Asian art and archaeology.

Britschgi has a background in Chinese art history and received his Ph.D. in East Asian art history from the University of Zurich, where he also was a lecturer. He will begin his new post at the Rubin Museum in March 2016.
