Alma Ruiz, a senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, has announced she will be retiring this month to pursue independent projects after thirty-one years with the institution.

While at LA MoCA, Ruiz curated many exhibitions of the museum’s permanent collection, as well as shows featuring the work of William Kentridge, Carlos Garaicoa, Ernesto Neto, Ana Mendieta, Piero Manzoni, and Ad Reinhardt, among others.

Ruiz has also been a juror for numerous exhibitions and biennials, including the V Panama Biennial, the Tamayo Biennial in Mexico City, and Women Artists on Immigration in Los Angeles. She has served as a panelist for The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans and Creative Capital Foundation in New York, and is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in Miami, Florida.
