Shary Boyle, ceramicist and painter, has been selected to represent Canada at the 2013 Venice Biennale. She was selected by a five-person national committee assembled by the National Gallery of Canada, including curators from Toronto’s Power Plant, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina, and two NGC representatives, reports the Globe and Mail. NGC’s contemporary curator Josée Drouin-Brisebois, who sat on the committee, will also curate the exhibition. Boyle stated, “[The Canadian pavilion] is a tricky space for many types of work. I, however, love it. There is a feeling of sanctity within its walls and natural brightness that is sure to influence my project ideas. There’s chemistry.”
