The Smithsonian American Art Museum has announced the appointment of its fellows for the 2009–2010 academic year. Awards, in the form of senior, predoctoral, and postdoctoral fellowships, are granted for scholars and students to pursue research at the museum. The 2009–2010 museum fellows include James Meyer, of Emory University, who received a senior fellowship, as well as fifteen predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows.

Each scholar is provided space in the fellowship office located across the street from the museum. Available research resources there include an 180,000-volume library that specializes in American art, history, and biography; the Archives of American Art; and the graphics collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, as well as a variety of image collections and research databases.
