The Associated Press reports that New York philanthropist Jillian Sackler will be donating five million dollars to the Smithsonian’s Asian art museum. Her gift, which establishes an endowment that will support the director’s position at the Sackler and Freer galleries of art, honors her late husband, Arthur M. Sackler, and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the museum, which bears his name and was founded in 1987 with his donation of over one thousand pieces of Asian art.
