The State Museum in Albany plans to begin a substantial renovation of its galleries, according to the New York Times‘ Robin Pogrebin. The museum attracts over 635,000 visitors a year, more than the Frick or Brooklyn Museum, notes Pogrebin. Thirty-five thousand square feet of new exhibition space, a changeable wall system, and new technology and media elements will all be included in the new, revamped space, which is being designed by Gallagher & Associates.
“The idea is to tell a more integrated history of New York State: about the land, and the people and the culture,” said Mark Schaming, the museum’s director. The four-year renovation is being funded through a fourteen-million-dollar New York State capital bond item.
