Stefan Borchardt Named Director of Kunsthalle Emden

As it celebrates its thirtieth anniversary and its 150th exhibition, the Kunsthalle Emden has appointed Stefan Borchardt as its new director, reports Monopol.

And, beginning in February 2017, Borchardt will also replace the institution’s current managing director Eske Nannen. Nannen, who established the museum in Emden, Germany with her husband Henri Nannen—the founder of Stern magazine—and continued its management after his death in 1996, announced her retirement earlier this April.

The Kunsthalle’s announcement on Friday stated that Borchardt—who has served as the curator at the Art Foundation Hohenkarpfen in Hauen ob Verena in southwest Germany since 2007—was selected for his qualifications in museum and exhibition management as well as for his extensive experience in art education and academic studies. Borchardt adds that he is attracted by the Kunsthalle’s dual roles as museum and art school.
