Joshua Barone of the New York Times_ writes that Susan (Suzy) Delvalle, a longtime administrator at various art institutions throughout New York, has been appointed the executive director and president of Creative Capital.
Delvalle has held positions at El Museo del Barrio as its director of external affairs and development, and at the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling as its executive director. Her position at Creative Capital starts on June 1, 2016 after Ruby Lerner, who’s run the organization since its founding in 1999, leaves.
“[Suzy] is a passionate and engaged arts advocate and a dynamic leader. In her many and varied collaborations with artists, donors, audiences, and community stakeholders she continually shows her incredible talent for actualizing real change and innovation. I have every confidence that this appointment signals an important moment for Creative Capital,” said director and chief curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem, Thelma Golden.
Creative Capital has provided over $4 million in funding to a variety of projects that focus on social issues, such as gender identity and gun violence. Artists who’ve received grants from Creative Capital include filmmaker Laura Poitras and choreographer Meredith Monk, among many others.
