Sotheby’s has announced that Thomas Bompard, one of the company’s leading specialists in Impressionist and modern art, will relocate from London to Los Angeles to begin his new role as chairman of Sotheby’s West Coast and senior specialist in the fine art division, effective immediately.
“The collecting community in Los Angeles has reached a level of power and sophistication that demands senior expertise on the ground to work with clients every day,” said Amy Cappellazzo, chairman of the Sotheby’s fine art division. “Having worked in the international centers of Paris and London, Thomas will bring tremendous experience and energy to a team that now reflects the range of services Sotheby’s has in its principal locations around the world.”
Commenting on his appointment, Bompard said: “There is so much opportunity for Sotheby’s up and down the West Coast and I couldn’t imagine a more exciting move for me personally. California is today, more than ever, the promise land of entrepreneurs with a unique life style – a natural paradise for art lovers and collectors.”
This week, the Los Angeles auction house will hold its sales of Impressionist and modern art, contemporary art, and twentieth-century design, among others.
