TITLE AND CONCEPT ANNOUNCED FOR YOKOHAMA TRIENNALE 2017

The sixth edition of the Yokohama Triennale, scheduled to open on August 4, 2017 and run through November 5, 2017, has officially announced its concept and theme.

“Islands, Constellations and Galapagos” will, according to the triennale’s website, “reexamine the state of global connectivity and isolation from various angles. The exhibition will potentially consider, among other things, the following: the archipelago-style existence of regions and cultural spheres; the world that is generally growing conservative; distinctive evolutions and diversifications that happen within closed environments; and what kinds of potential human imagination and creativity may manage to cultivate.”

The main venues for the exhibition will be the Yokohama Museum of Art and the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No. 1, a multipurpose event space. The organizers of the upcoming triennale are the city of Yokohama, the Organizing Committee for the Yokohama Triennale, the Yokohama Arts Foundation, the Asahi Shimbun, and the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK).
