Ukrainian Statue of Lenin Converted into Darth Vader Monument

According to a report by Claire Voon at Hyperallergic, the Ukrainian city of Yuzhne, just outside of Odessa, has replaced a statue of Vladimir Lenin with a titanium alloy casing of Darth Vader in response to the country’s ban against communist symbols signed into law by legislators last April.

Because of the decommunization law, the statue was to be demolished, but workers at a local factory requested a redesign rather than a removal, which artist Alexander Milov was happy to provide. Apparently though, the statue’s head was entirely replaced by Darth Vader’s helmet and embedded with a Wifi router that provides internet service free of charge.
