UK’S NATIONAL GALLERY LIKELY TO SECURE RAPHAEL MASTERPIECE

The UK’s heritage lottery fund has granted the National Gallery 11.5 million pounds (18.5 million dollars) toward the cost of Raphael’s Madonna of the Pinks, making it almost certain that the painting will not leave Britain, The Guardian reports. A gamble by the gallery that a lower bid for the painting would increase the likelihood of raising the necessary funds seems to have paid off.
