US TO SPEARHEAD RECOVERY OF IRAQI ANTIQUITIES

Secretary of State Colin Powell said that the US would play a leading role in recovering items taken by looters from Iraq’s National Museum, in cooperation with UNESCO and Interpol, Suzanne Muchnic reports in the Los Angeles Times. “It’s an important step,” Patty Gerstenblith, president of the Archaeological Institute of America, said of Powell’s statement.
