VIETNAM MEMORIAL WINS AIA AWARD; GRIMA HEADS TO STOREFRONT

ARCHITECTURE

Maya Lin’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington has been chosen by the American Institute of Architects to receive its 2007 AIA Twenty-Five Year Award, reports the New York Times‘ Lawrence Van Gelder. “The memorial speaks to the power of design and resonates with all of us,” said Richard Logan, the chairman of the association’s 2007 Architecture Jury.

In other news, Artnet reports that after a six-month-long search, the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York’s SoHo neighborhood has appointed Domus magazine editor Joseph Grima as its director. Grima was cocurator of “Fiction Pyongyang,” a video show at the Italian Pavilion at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennial, and is editor of the forthcoming Instant Asia, a survey of new Asian architects.
