The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis announced today that Henriette Huldisch will be its next chief curator and director of curatorial affairs. Huldisch comes to the institution from the MIT List Visual Arts Center in Boston, where she has worked as director of exhibitions and curator since 2014. She will begin her new role on January 6, 2020.
“Henriette has an interdisciplinary perspective, deep knowledge, and experience working with living artists,” said the Walker’s executive director, Mary Ceruti. “She will provide excellent leadership for our curators as we develop creative, experimental programming that both builds on the Walker’s collection and is responsive to our communities.”
During her tenure at the List Center, Huldisch organized the group exhibitions “Before Projection: Video Sculpture 1974–1995” (2018) and “An Inventory of Shimmers: Objects of Intimacy in Contemporary Art” (2017), as well as the solo exhibitions “Ericka Beckman: Double Reverse” (2019), “Tala Madani: First Light” (2016), “Edgar Arceneaux: Written in Smoke and Fire” (2016), and “Rosa Barba: The Color Out of Time” (2015).
Huldisch began her career in the art world at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2001 immediately after she graduated from New York University’s film studies program. Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Huldisch came to the United States after receiving a master’s in American studies at Berlin’s Humboldt University. She has also held positions at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum for Contemporary Art – Berlin and at Cornerhouse in Manchester.
Commenting on her appointment, Huldisch said: “Since the beginning of my career I have watched the trailblazing programs at the Walker with admiration. I am truly thrilled now to join the institution and help move forward this legacy of innovative and forward-thinking exhibition making together with Mary Ceruti and the Walker’s staff.”
