WEST VANCOUVER MUSEUM RECEIVES MAJOR ARCHIVE OF PHOTOS DOCUMENTING WEST COAST MODERNIST ARCHITECTURE

A massive photographic archive has been donated to the West Vancouver Museum by Selwyn Pullan and John Fulker, photographers who recorded modernist buildings on the West Coast, according to the Vancouver Sun’s Kevin Griffin. The gift comprises about thirty thousand negatives and transparencies and more than 200 photographic prints. Images in the collection document everything from a massive mural created by artist BC Binning for the former Canadian Imperial Bank, to buildings designed by Ron Thom, Fred Hollingsworth, and Ned Pratt, among others.

Discussing the museum’s formidable task of documenting and digitizing the material, Darrin Morrison, director of the museum, said: “It takes hundreds of hours and quite a bit of skill to manipulate the images to make them presentable,” adding, “It’s an enormous project.”
