White Cube Appoints Toby Kamps as Director of External Projects

White Cube announced today that Toby Kamps has been named director of external projects. Kamps will be responsible for seeking new business opportunities for the gallery, leading external projects in the UK and abroad, and acting as a liaison for a range of artists. He will take up the post in October.

Kamps joins White Cube from the Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston, where he has served as director and chief curator. Since 2016, he also worked as curator of the Spotlight section at Frieze’s London and New York fairs. Previously, Kamps worked in various curatorial roles at the Menil Collection in Houston; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; the Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, Oregon; and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Founded by dealer Jay Jopling in London in 1993, White Cube has two locations in London, a space in Hong Kong, and an office on the Upper East Side in New York, which opened earlier this year. Kamps’s appointment comes on the heels of the gallery’s decision to hire Eric Shiner, the former senior vice president of contemporary art at Sotheby’s, as its artistic director. Shiner will be based in New York and will join the organization in the fall.
