Artist Willard Bond has died at the age of eighty-five. Famous for his abstract paintings of sailing, Bond was born in Colfax, Washington, in 1926. He later went on to attend the Art Institute of Chicago and studied at Pratt Institute in New York, where he lived and worked for most of his life. The New York Times_ quotes Jeanne C. Potter, director of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut and his gallerist as saying, “Willard Bond was an original. Willard would often hear from the sailors who raced that that is the way it is out there, and that he was the only artist that got it.”
