Billionaire art collector William Louis-Dreyfus (who happens to be the father of actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus) has decided to sell his art collection; proceeds will go towards the Harlem Children’s Zone, which supports underprivileged children, according to Artnet.
Over the past five decades, Louis-Dreyfus has built a 3,500-piece collection, which includes pieces by Leonardo Cremonini, Jean Dubuffet, and Helen Frankenthaler. It could be worth up to fifty million dollars.
Louis-Dreyfus decided to support the Harlem Children’s Zone after watching a “60 Minutes” segment featuring the nonprofit.
“I realized one morning that my children do not need to be any richer than they are,” he said, “and they did not need the spoils from my collection.” He also said, “It was not going to the Met or the Museum of Modern Art.”
