Australian-born and Hong Kong–based, Christopher Doyle is widely considered one of the finest cinematographers working today. (His credits include Wong Kar-wai’s Chungking Express, 1994, and In the Mood for Love, 2000; Zhang Yimou’s Hero, 2002; and Gus Van Sant’s Psycho, 1998, and Paranoid Park, 2007.) He is also notorious for disappearing from the set to shoot extracurricular images once a given scene has been established. While Doyle rarely publishes these photographs, he has provided Artforum with three images captured during the filming of Jim Jarmusch’s new feature, The Limits of Control.
