  • Richard Deacon

    Tate Liverpool
    Albert Dock
    February 20–May 16, 1999

Richard Deacon’s first major UK exhibition since his Whitechapel show a decade ago brings together a selection of sculpture, drawings, and mixed-media works realized in the past ten years. Several new pieces made specifically for this exhibition are also included. Deacon, who is as well known internationally as any British sculptor at midcareer, is a voracious explorer of new materials, a voyager amid allusive meaning, who fabricates fastidiously, often to monumental effect. Yet the domestic and figurative roots of his work afford visual intimacy, even when he is working on a public scale, which he does with immense if wry conviction.
