Sam Samore

Casino Luxembourg
41, rue Notre-Dame
July 8–October 8, 2000

Since the '80s, Sam Samore has been attracting increasing attention for his oblique yet dramatic photographs, often engaging themes of surveillance and voyeurism. Less well known are his installations and text works, which bring to the fore the tacit “fictions” (the title of a 1997 photo series) behind his pictures. This will be Samore's first large-scale museum survey, and although the artist cautions that he and curator Enrico Lunghi “are still talking about the exact recipe of things,” viewers can look forward to sampling all of the main ingredients of this multidimensional oeuvre. The catalogue accompanying this hundred-piece show includes essays by Samore, Hou Hanru, and Jérôme Sans.
