    Art Sonje Center
    87 Yulgok-ro 3-gil Jongno-gu
    May 26–August 6, 2000

Curated by David Ross, director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Sun Jun Kim, chief curator of the Artsonje Center, in Seoul, this show brings together twenty paintings, films, and installations by eleven established and emerging Korean-American artists (among them Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Michael Joo, and Byron Kim). The exhibition addresses both the artists' connection to and distance from their ancestral culture; the title is based on the concept “Jung-Che and Jung-Che,” which plays on the opposing aspects of a word that means both “identity” and “frozen time,” “lag,” or “stop.”
