Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art
    Witte de Withstraat 50
    April 29–July 1, 2001

Initiated by Museu de Serralves director Vicente Todolí and Witte de With director Bartomeu Marí, “Squatters” is a series of shows that will connect the Rotterdam and Porto institutions during 2001, the year these cities take their joint turn as Cultural Capital of Europe. The project begins with “Hortus Conclusus,” an exhibition referencing the Rotterdam humanist Erasmus’s notion of a dosed garden as the ideal place for quiet thought. Held in gardens and public spaces throughout Rotterdam in addition to the Witte de With, the show will bring together works by landscape architects as well as artists including Dennis Adams, Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragsset, Cildo Meireles, and Tobias Rehberger. “Hortus Conclusus,” Apr. 29–July 1.
