Evidently desperate to show the area what a “real” collector looks like, the San Francisco Museum’s Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art invited Mrs. Burton Tremaine, the well-known New York collector, to select an exhibition of works designed to tempt the taste and pocketbooks of would-be Bay Area collectors.
