Juan Uslé has always been attracted to landscape. This 32-year-old Spanish artist became known for his abstract landscapes featuring a luminous primary palette and a clear ordering of space. Since 1982, when he moved from Valencia (which is on the Mediterranean in eastern Spain) to his native Cantabria in northern Spain, his work has been closely tied to the land of his birth, to its light and its terrain, so different from that of Valencia. Soon after he moved, Uslé began to use darker colors, his brushwork became more dense, and he introduced large, ambiguous-looking figures into his landscapes,
