    Downplaying as it does subjective expression and the hand of the artist, Conceptual art might have been expected to foretell the obsolescence of drawing, but in fact the medium’s aptness for the unencumbered articulation of thought processes made it central to the tendency. By the same token, neo-expressionism, by putting a premium on the personal, ought to have been a hothouse for drawing, but as it turns out, the movement’s dependence on scale over intimacy ruled that out. Today, drawing is again ascendant, but its current proliferation has less to do with the dominance of a particular movement
