    In the 1880s, King Oscar II of Norway transplanted buildings from all the regions of the country; he had them dismantled and then rebuilt, stone by stone, on a plot of land just outside Oslo. This astonishing architectural “collection” forms the heart of the Norsk Folkemuseum, one of the world’s first open-air museums.
