Chris Burden's performance took place at F-Space Gallery in Santa ANA not Santa Monica. Santa Ana was —and still is— quite a long way from Santa Monica. It was a student-run alternative space begun by grad students in UC Irvine's MFA program, among them, Barbara T. Smith, Nancy Buchanan, Bruce Dunlap, and Burden. The surface irony of Katzner's piece focuses wrongly on the gun connection, rather than the grad school one. Burden's performance was off-campus, this performance was on campus, and, like it or not, we are living in a post-Columbine age.

see - and my sneakers are worn. The do not let me have gins - why? You would n't have a gun show if if I did. You know...maybe you're right; maybe the military is underpaid. Big question: retroactive? I say now. Fire em all, up the scale, amd start from there; they are underpaid via their responsibilities; their are over piad via the quality of their current staff.

That's the way it goes...

big news - is it really for sale; they pass theese babies around...

Code Of Conduct

The Jedi can be compared to the knights of England and the samurai of Japan. These groups generally consist of skilled fighters who strive to protect the general populace from whatever threat that may appear (or at least they are supposed to). Jedi, samurai, and knights, also usually do combat with swords. These groups also are similar in the fact that they all had a code of conduct.

To illustrate this, we can compare the Jedi Code to the samurai's Bushido. Bushido was the way of life for the samurai (PacificU). It literally means “way of the warrior” (PacificU). Under this code samurai's did not fear death. They believed that after death, they would be reincarnated in another life. This is similar to the Jedi Code belief of melding with the Force after death (the Force will be discussed in another section of this site) (Onslaught). Another similarity would be the Bushido teaching of eliminating self doubt and fear (PacificU). This is also happens to be a major point in the Jedi Code. And just as in Bushido, the Jedi Code also heavily advocated love and benevolence were major attributes (PacificU)(Onslaught).

The Jedi Code does differ from the codes of Earth in significant ways. One example is that both men and women may join the Jedi Order. It also doesn't matter what species they are. For example Wookies, a race of large furred humanoids, have been known to become Jedi. Another difference, would be that the Jedi Code doesn't require the Jedi to protect any particular government; they help everyone that that they can.

The Jedi also have ranks which are dictated by the level of skill in which they can control the Force. Someone who is starting out in learning the ways of the Force is known as a “padawan” (a.k.a. Jedi apprentice). When they become well versed in the ways of the Force they rise to the rank of Jedi Knight. Those Jedi Knights who have shown exceptional skill in using and understanding the Force become Jedi Masters. Padawans usually train under a knight or master. The rule is one teacher, one student.

And I think I need a little poison

And the circus in my head

What have I ever done to deserve even one
Of the pleasures I've known
Lord, what did I ever do to deserve loving You
And the kindness You've shown
Lord help me Jesus I've wasted it...
So help me Jesus, You know what I am
Now that I know that I've needed you...
So help me Jesus my soul's in Your hands
Try me Lord, if You think there's a way

Maybe Lord, I can show someone else

I think the success of The Sims demonstrates pretty clearly that it's not necessary to rule the world, and a lot of people don't even want to. They're busy just trying to keep the dishes washed and the newspapers picked up. Millions of them are perfectly happy doing it, and Maxis is making a fortune out of fulfilling that particular, if peculiar, fantasy. We don't need for games to be about adolescent armageddon. We only need for them to be about people that we care for, and in fact that allows us to make a much wider variety of games than “Save the world!” does.

there is a point when even the most vaunted minds (self annointed/otherwise) round the corner of their personal street. so to speak.
we have all enjoyed your superior tone and informed info on all the history you know.
but, history it is. when you start referencing current notions freely floating ‘out there’ as a seeming attempt to ‘seem’ current and ‘in the know’ still...it stinks of who you really are.
example (you do so insist upon them):

“There's post-911, post-Erhnhardt, post-tsunami and now the latest post-Carson. The era is clearly the Age of Sponge Bob. Can't u post-grads get anything write. Ooo. Sorry, sore spot. Dylan's ‘twenty years of schoolin and they put u on the day shit, shift’ still stings huh? Columbine my ass.”

perhaps you are one of those who will never realize that you rounded your corner a long time ago. and there you are. headed for the Dead End. HIStory.

At Least 4 Dead in L.A. Commuter Train Crash

 Top Stories - Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - At least four people were killed and up to 30 were critically injured when two commuter trains collided near downtown Los Angeles early on Wednesday morning, emergency authorities said.

Canadian Press Photo

Emergency teams were picking through the debris of the crash, which also involved a parked freight train, and could be seen carrying some victims away on stretchers.

One of the train cars caught fire and another rolled to its side in the crash, which occurred at about 6 a.m. PST. Authorities were unsure if some passengers were still trapped inside the toppled train.

The cause of the accident was still unclear, said a spokeswoman for Metrolink, which operates the commuter rail lines. A spokesman for Union Pacific said its train was parked on another track when it was struck after the initial accident.

About 70 passengers with minor injuries including facial cuts and bruises were ushered into an improvised treatment center outside a Costco store near the tracks, in an industrial area near the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles.

One of the commuter trains, which had departed Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, was mostly full, witnesses said.

“For me, this is the worst train accident I have ever seen,” said Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Rex Vilaubi, who confirmed four people had been killed.

One man bleeding from a cut over his eye told KNBC TV that the crash forced the train he was riding in to stop suddenly, throwing him violently forward.

“It's like we went from 55-60 (mph) (90-100 kph) to zero in two seconds flat,” he said.
